USA – New York (Fesvebi)

The Georgian Cultural Center “Roots” has been operating in New York, the USA since 2007, where Rusudan Galdava teaches native language to children born in the United States, who also teaches Georgian language and literature to the parishioners of the Church of the Nativity in Brooklyn.
The founders of “Roots” are Shorena Barbakadze and Ivane Goderdzishvili. Their goal is to popularize Georgian culture and preserve the identity of Georgian children abroad.
“Georgian dance, song, painting, chess, Georgian language, and literature are taught at the roots, lessons in homeland studies and calligraphy are held, the studio” Tsitsinatela “, theatrical and folk instrument circles are functioning. In the cultural center “Roots” it has become a tradition to hold festive evenings dedicated to autumn, Christmas, Mother, and Mother Language Day. “Roots” laid the foundation for the celebration of “Tbilisoba” in New York, which has been successfully held for the fourth year (this year, it was held as a week due to the pandemic), they participate in all festivals and charity concerts. In 2015, Tsalbatoni Rusudani arrived in Tbilisi and transferred the proceeds from the charity concerts to the families affected by the disaster.
Despite the pandemic, “Roots” continues to function successfully, with up to 200 students mastering various subjects at the center.
In August 2020, the Ministry of Justice of Georgia registered the International Teachers’ Association, of which Rusudan Galdava-Ghavtadze is one of the founders and a member of the board. Due to his direct efforts, 110 teachers of Georgian Sunday schools in 22 countries were united in the association. Both teachers and children got in touch and became friends with each other. It is noteworthy that practically the entire staff of teachers working abroad open Sunday schools at their own expense and do the greatest national work. They are the heroes of our time
